Sujet: Objet: [NCEP.list.NOMADS-ftpprd] NOMADS/FTPPRD Services Restored
NOMADS/FTPPRD services have been restored to normal for the time being. The last component, Grib Filter, was brought back online around 3:15pm EDT (1915 UTC) and has been stable thus far. Our teams will continue to closely monitor the status of NOMADS services this weekend for any issues.
The Para NOMADS website (https://para.nomads.ncep.noaa.gov) will be kept offline through the weekend so that we may verify complete stability of our operational NOMADS services. Assuming all remains well we will plan to bring back Para NOMADS on Monday.
Thank you for your patience as we have worked to restore operational access to our datasets.

Helen,
Yes, you will need to use the new grib filter scripts you listed in your email. I think the easiest way to modify them would be to go to the NOMADS homepage (https://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/) after the 12Z run has started. Go to each individual grib filter, select the variables and levels you would like, and then check the "Show the URL only for web programming" box before hitting download. That should give you the proper formatting for your scripts. If you would like to try and prepare your changes ahead of time, you can try and modify you current scripts using the levels and variables listed in the appendices of the SCN: https://www.weather.gov/media/notificat ... hanges.pdf
Please reach out if you are unable to access the GEFSv12 data once it begins populating tomorrow with the 12Z cycle.

Sujet: Objet: [NCEP.list.NOMADS-ftpprd] CORRECTION: NOMADS Impactful maintenance - Tue 10/20 at 11-17 UTC
Evening NOMADS Users,
A correction to a previous email - The maintenance work will be October 20, 2020 not November 20 as was mistakenly announced.
Beginning at 11 UTC on Tuesday, 10/20, the NOMADS Website (nomads.ncep.noaa.gov) will be offline for network maintenance for up to six (6) hours. Due to the length of the outage we will not be backfilling the data that populates during the outage, as soon as the site is restored the data will be flowing in real-time. If there is a Critical Weather Declaration (CWD) day in effect the maintenance will be postponed and the SCN updated.

Please see this notice for websites that will be specifically impacted.

NOMADS users,
The data center network maintenance that took place on 10/22 has caused many unexpected issues. Beginning early today our system admins began to troubleshoot reports of both the Opendap and Grib Filter services being unresponsive. Unfortunately, with the complexity of the issues within the data center, the team was unable to restore the services. At this time, both OpenDap and Grib Filter services are down. We will continue to persevere through this incredibly impactful outage and work as quickly as we can to recover NOMADS.
As a mitigation to the broken services, users can still download full files over https. Or leverage the idx files with the fast downloading method, explained here:

We appreciate the impact this outage is having on our users, and apologize for the disruption.

Out of interest, is there a more robust feed that we can access for a fee/subscription payment? The GFS data is very useful for Australia as there is not much else available. Currently we're in the middle of a significant thunderstorm outbreak and to have a more robust feed would be beneficial, and depending on cost we would happily pay for it.

If I'm reading the Dashboard data correctly, they've already updated the forecast, but not for all boats at the same time.
I see boats close to each other, both at TWA 140, but with headings differing by 25° and wind speed differing by 6kn. For example, BooBill and I are in the old wind, NeptuneIST and FreizhVolante are in the new wind.

Interesting. I wonder if VR will catch up suddenly or not until the next forecast update 5 more hours from now.

Evening NOMADS Users,
At this time we have restored all services and all data sets to NOMADS. The GEFS and NAM data were turned back on at 2150 UTC, and the ensemble data is running for the 18Z cycle right now. We will be unable to backfill any missing data. If users experience any other issues please report them to us so we can investigate. We thank you for your patience during this very impactful outage.

Hello NOMADS Users,
We have resolved some of the issues with Grib Filter and OpenDap but are still validating all services are fully functional.
Please make sure that your scripts for downloading from these NOMADS services have reasonable timeout and retries in place so as to not overwhelm the NOMADS systems as users come back to the system to access data. If you have scripts which had previously kicked off to pull older data we'd ask that you kill those off in favor of more recent data pulls. Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve all data issues.

Bonsoir;
A surveiller cependant.
